Marco took the phone from my hand and turned off the screen. “Feeling sorry for him?” he asked, his voice low.
I snapped back to reality, meeting his probing gaze before letting out a sharp laugh.
“Sorry for him?” I picked up a glass of champagne and downed it in one go. “I just think it’s pathetic how he acts now. I took so many metaphorical bullets for him, cleaned up so much of the family’s dirty laundry. How could he have been so blind to all of it?”
My voice was steady, but I could feel the ghost of the original Serafina’s resentment screaming inside me.
