Love as Vast as Stars and Sea

Chapter 3

Damian pulled her into a comforting hug. "Don't watch them anymore. You scared me to death."

Just as she was about to speak, a call came through.

"Mr. Blackwood, the venue you booked has been fully decorated..."

A flash of panic crossed his face. "You have the wrong number."

Seeing that her expression hadn't changed, he assumed she hadn't heard the call and breathed a sigh of relief.

He feigned annoyance. "It seems like my number got leaked recently. I've been getting all sorts of strange calls."

She watched his performance with cold eyes, managing a faint smile.

"Honey, you didn't sleep well last night. I'll have the driver take you to the spa today."

Seraphina just looked at him with a distant expression, not answering. He took her silence as agreement.

As she gathered her things to leave, Damian also eagerly got in his car and drove off.

She watched the GPS tracker in his car. The final location it displayed was a luxurious resort hotel, The Serenity Crest.

It was the exact same location Lila had sent her. Suddenly, everything became painfully clear.

A chilling coldness filled her eyes. Damian had lied to her again.

This was originally the place Damian had booked for her birthday, but he had suddenly changed his mind a few days ago.

"Honey, a young couple wants to get engaged there, and they reached out to me."

"He seems to really love the girl and wants to give her the most perfect proposal."

"But of course, if you don't agree, I won't let them have it."

But there was no young couple. It was all a lie so he could give the venue to Lila.

He had counted on her soft heart, knowing she wouldn't want to disappoint a couple in love.

A dull ache spread through Seraphina's chest, but it was overshadowed by her disappointment in him.

He had deceived her again. She let out a bitter laugh. How many other secrets was he hiding from her?

At 3 PM, Lila sent another message right on time.

Take the hotel's glass elevator down from the top floor. You'll see something special.

I already tested it for you. It's gorgeous.

Inside the glass elevator, Seraphina looked out at a sea of flowers.

Romantic pinks, fiery reds, pure whites, and elegant blues. A path paved with roses stretched out before her, the floral arrangements towering at least ten feet high.

In the center of the venue, roses formed a giant three-dimensional heart, with Lila's name spelled out next to it.

As the elevator descended, she saw a figure in a snow-white wedding gown walking down the rose path toward the center.

That figure was Lila.

Seraphina's eyes were uncontrollably drawn to the scene. Lila sent another message.

So what if he designed it for you? All I had to do was cry a little, and it became the scene of his proposal to me.

Get the hint and make some room.

You’re almost thirty, calling you by your first name all the time feels a bit rude.

You’re old news now, so let’s just call you that from now on.

Lila started a livestream of the romantic proposal, instantly attracting a massive crowd of viewers.

Dressed in a magnificent wedding gown, Lila appeared on camera, sharing her joy of being proposed to by the love of her life.

The live chat flooded with blessings and comments about their fairytale romance.

Lila held a bouquet as a strong hand wrapped around her waist. The owner of the hand stayed off-camera, but the scar on his thumb was unmistakable to Seraphina. It was Damian's hand.

The irony was crushing. He got that scar years ago while peeling an apple for her. Now, it was the very evidence that confirmed his betrayal.

Tears streamed down Seraphina's face. Her husband was proposing to another woman.

What did that make her? The wife he was about to cast aside?

Soon, a question appeared in the chat:

This design looks so much like Seraphina Vance’s style. It’s not her work, is it?

"You're right, it's his work," Lila said, her eyes filled with sweet bliss.

Wow, how can I hire him?

Didn't he say he would only ever design for his wife?

A look of triumph flashed in Lila's eyes. "All you need is a husband who loves you enough."

Lila turned her back to the hotel, a knowing smile on her face.

She asked in a syrupy sweet voice, "Honey, am I the most beautiful bride-to-be?"

"Am I the one you love the most?"

Although the man wasn't on camera, Seraphina heard his fond laughter.

"Lila, you're the most beautiful."

"This is the day I'm proposing to you. Who else could I possibly love?"

But Lila wasn't satisfied with that vague answer and pressed him for a clearer one.

"Alright, alright, I'll say it."

"The woman I love most is Lila. The others... they're just temporary."

Lila glanced toward the hotel building, her eyes full of playful malice.

Her lips moved, silently mouthing to the camera, "He's mine."

The viewers in the livestream thought Lila was just showing off her relationship, but Seraphina knew exactly what was happening. Lila was declaring her ownership to her.

As the woman who shared his bed, she could tell from his tone that he meant every word.

She collapsed onto a sofa in the lobby, tears blurring her vision. An icy pain shot through her spine, leaving her feeling utterly broken.
