He Doesn’t Deserve My Forgiveness

Chapter 1

A week before our wedding, my fiancé Marcus told me he needed to marry his first love before he could marry me.

Because his first love's mother had died, leaving behind a dying wish for them to get married.

"Diana's mom always wanted to see her marry a good man. I'm just fulfilling an old woman's last wish. Don't read too much into it."

But the company had already decided to launch the True Love jewelry collection on our wedding day.

He said impatiently, "It's just tens of millions of dollars. How can that compare to Diana's devotion to her mother? If you really want to make that money, go find someone else to marry."

Faced with his cold words, I understood everything. I turned around and called home.

"Hey, bro. Help me find a new groom."

My brother couldn't believe it. "You're calling off the wedding?"

"No. He's marrying someone else."

I smiled bitterly.

To be with Marcus, I fought tooth and nail in my family to get my parents' approval, and even scheduled the True Love jewelry launch for our wedding day.

Now it was all for nothing.

My brother was silent for a long time before saying, "There's only Sebastian available. His family's been pressuring him, and he's been looking for someone to marry lately."

I frowned. Sebastian was my sworn enemy. At our engagement party, he even cursed that my marriage would fall apart. Turns out he was right.

Time was running short, so I could only say, "Then it's him. Ask if he's interested. If not, I'll figure something else out."

My brother said quickly, "No need to ask. He'll definitely agree."

"What?"

Before I could ask more, a group of people surrounded me.

"You must be Marcus's fiancée! You're so beautiful!"

"You're here to pick up Marcus from work, right? He'll be down soon. You two are so in love."

I gripped the steering wheel, lowering my eyes to hide the self-mockery in them.

Marcus had introduced me to his colleagues and friends years ago. In everyone's eyes, we were the perfect couple that others envied.

But no one could imagine he was about to marry someone else.

After saying goodbye to everyone, Marcus got in the car and handed me a necklace.

"Diana wanted me to give this to you. You embarrassed her at the funeral yesterday, so apologize to her when you get a chance."

This necklace was obviously a freebie that came with a purchase. I'd seen it in Marcus's shopping cart a few days ago.

I said flatly, "I don't want it."

Marcus frowned. "What's wrong with you now? You're the one who showed up at the funeral claiming I wasn't her fiancé and embarrassed her. She's not even holding a grudge and wanted to bring you a gift. Why are you being so ungrateful?"

The man who used to protect me was gone. Now he treasured someone else.

Marcus rolled down the window irritably. After a long while, seeing I wouldn't comfort him, he said, "Fine. We're trying on wedding dresses today, so I won't argue with you."

This was the first time he'd backed down all year.

At the bridal shop, the staff greeted us.

"Mr. Richardson, Miss Quinn, your custom-made twenty wedding dress and tuxedo sets are ready."

But Marcus wasn't looking at the clothes. He was looking down at his phone with some urgency.

When he noticed my gaze, he quickly put away his phone with a hint of guilt.

"Sophia, something came up with Diana. I need to rush over. Try on the dresses yourself, and pick out a tuxedo for me. I trust your taste."

He hurriedly hailed a taxi and left, leaving me alone.

The staff member approached tentatively. "Miss Quinn, would you like to choose the tuxedo yourself?"

I looked away and nodded.

Of course I'd choose a tuxedo.

Just not for Marcus.

After all, the groom had changed.

I drove home, thinking Marcus would be out all night, but I saw him before dinner.

He walked over to me with a takeout box in his hand.

"I ran all over the city to get this for you. Late-night snacks from Harbor's."

I looked at the box of shrimp dumplings.

There were three fewer than usual, and one had a bite mark—clearly someone had already eaten from it.

Half an hour ago, I'd seen Diana's social media post.

The picture showed exactly the food in my hands.

"Hubby remembered to buy me late-night snacks even though it's so late. Thanks, honey! Kiss kiss!"

I put down my chopsticks with self-mockery, instantly losing my appetite.

"I don't want it. Throw it away."

Marcus looked at me with displeasure but held back from exploding. He sat next to me and complained.

"You don't know how pitiful Diana was today. My parents went to her house and yelled at her family for being poor and not having a proper dowry. She cried so hard."

"Diana just came back from abroad and doesn't have much money. I want to give her your dowry first."

His commanding tone made me feel sick.

I looked at him mockingly. "So I'm supposed to provide the dowry for your wife?"
