I used to care about Marcus. Whatever he asked for, I was willing to give him, willing to do anything for him.
But now he'd woken me up himself.
Thinking back to everything he'd done since Diana returned from abroad, it was all for Diana.
He'd forgotten that I was supposed to be the one spending life with him.
My response angered Marcus. "What do you mean by that? You're not willing? You better recognize that Diana is my best friend. You better make her happy, or I won't marry you!"
He slammed the door and left.
Feeling frustrated, I went downstairs to the park to jog.
After just one lap, Sebastian called.
Thinking of Sebastian with his perpetual poker face, I hesitated for two seconds before answering.
"Once you're on my ship, you're my person. Try to run and I'll tie you up and drag you back!"
Sebastian's first words were a verbal assault.
I stayed silent, and he continued.
"Send me your ID first. Let's get the marriage certificate."
"I'm afraid you'll back out."
Sebastian, you're acting weird.
I'd already imagined ten thousand scenarios of how he might use this marriage to torment me.
In the end, I could only manage, "See you at the wedding, Mr. Blackwood."
As soon as I finished speaking, Marcus appeared behind me.
"You want to invite Sebastian to our wedding? I won't allow it!"
He stared at me like I was the enemy.
"Sophia Quinn, didn't I tell you not to associate with Sebastian? He has ulterior motives toward you. If you insist on inviting him to our wedding, don't blame me for turning my back on you!"
Before I could say a word, he'd already issued his threat.
Marcus had never liked Sebastian, harboring inexplicable hostility. When we first got together, he even exploded with jealousy because Sebastian and I often argued over text. Later, I gradually cut contact with Sebastian.
But he actually said... Sebastian had ulterior motives toward me?
I was about to ask more when Diana suddenly leaned against Marcus's neck.
"Marcus, you're hurting me..."
Only then did I notice they were holding hands while taking a walk.
Marcus coughed unnaturally but didn't pull his hand away.
Diana looked at Marcus with tender eyes, then apologetically addressed me.
"Sister Sophia, I'm sorry. Marcus and I are rehearsing the wedding ceremony. Please don't mind."
"I won't tell anyone about you hiring people to beat me up or vandalize my mother's grave, but please don't hurt Marcus. True love can't withstand such tests."
I didn't want to watch this b***h's performance, so I turned to leave.
"Since you're so eager, I'll find someone to beat you up tonight and destroy your mom's grave!"
Slap!
Marcus slapped me hard.
"Sophia Quinn, how can you be so vicious?!"
His face was dark with anger, his chest heaving.
Me, vicious?
He believed someone else's lies without question, but five years together couldn't earn me an ounce of his trust.
Suddenly furious, I wanted to confront Marcus, but Diana stepped in front of him.
"Sister Sophia, please, once the wedding is over, I'll give Marcus back to you."
"Please be merciful. Don't hurt the people around me, and don't hurt Marcus."
She looked like she was about to kneel.
Marcus quickly wrapped his arms around her waist to stop her from kneeling, glaring at me.
"Sophia Quinn, stop playing the spoiled rich girl throwing her weight around!"
"You know I hate that kind of behavior. If you still want to marry me, stop making trouble!"
He warned me not to appear in front of them before the wedding.
I didn't expect Marcus to contact me the next day.
He started with accusations. "Sophia Quinn, did you really dig up Mrs. Williams's grave?! I didn't know you were this kind of person!"
Confused, I called my assistant to investigate, but the investigation revealed something shocking.
Diana's mother... wasn't dead.
