I had Seraphina post a picture of our intertwined hands on her social media.
The caption was simple: Happy Wedding.
I told her it was to make sure everyone thought our relationship was solid.
I also noticed that her social media feed was completely clean. Unlike other women, there were no travel photos or selfies. Besides our wedding post, there was nothing.
Her life must be incredibly boring.
When it was time to sleep, she really did take the big bed for herself, leaving me on the sofa.
Well, I guess I should be grateful.
The next morning, I was woken up by Seraphina.
She was up at the crack of dawn, doing Pilates while listening to music.
She might be an ice queen, but she had a fantastic body, not an ounce of fat on her.
She was in much better shape than Isabelle.
"Stop staring. I'm not interested in you."
She spoke suddenly, rising gracefully from the floor.
"Get dressed. We're going to breakfast together."
The unspoken message was clear: this would make everyone think our relationship was going well.
I was starting to think she was pretty reasonable. Why was she so cruel to Dylan in our last life?
After I got ready, Seraphina and I left the room together.
The moment we stepped out, we saw Dylan and Isabelle walking toward us, their fingers laced together.
Dylan was wearing a loose shirt with a wide collar, revealing a smattering of hickeys on his collarbone and shoulder.
He looked at me with an air of pride, sizing me up from head to toe.
He's all covered up. He must have been beaten and is trying to hide the bruises.
He thought that to himself, then smirked.
"Hey, bro. How was the wedding night?"
I was wearing a simple, casual outfit today.
Dylan seemed to have forgotten that the matriarch hated seeing anyone in the Warren household dressed inappropriately.
You were expected to look the part of a high-society family.
But I wasn't about to remind him.
I just smiled.
"Dylan, in the Warren family, you should be calling me 'brother-in-law.'"
His face instantly darkened, and he gritted his teeth. "Seraphina hasn't said anything about it. What gives you the right to demand that?"
He then turned to Seraphina.
"Seraphina, say something."
I could feel the air around Seraphina grow colder and colder.
Isabelle cursed in her mind. Goddamn idiot. Just wait until I get you alone tonight!
She tugged on Dylan's arm, signaling for him to shut up.
But he was completely oblivious to how serious the situation was.
"Isabelle, what is the first rule of the Warren family?"
Seraphina's voice was soft, but sharp as a razor.
Isabelle immediately lowered her head.
"I'm sorry, sister. I'll deal with him right now."
The next second, a sharp smack echoed in the hall. She slapped Dylan across the face.
"Say good morning to your sister and brother-in-law! Now!"
Dylan's face flushed crimson. He looked like he was about to explode with rage.
But he knew Seraphina wasn't someone to be trifled with. He forced the words out through gritted teeth. "Good morning, sister, brother-in-law."
With that, Isabelle dragged him away.
I remembered the Warren family's number one rule: No one shall show disrespect to the heir or the heir's spouse. First names are forbidden. The penalty for violation is thirty lashes.
And Seraphina was the heir to the Warren family.
I remembered how, in my last life, I memorized every single family rule just to survive.
Back then, after Dylan married Seraphina, he bullied me constantly. It was only because I knew that rule that I never dared to disrespect him.
I thought Dylan would know the rules too, but apparently, he hadn't bothered to learn them.
He thought he could still bully me in this life.
